Pixels Per Inch (PPI) Calculator

The PPI calculator determines the pixels per inch, dot pitch (DPI), and aspect ratio based on the screen resolution and diagonal.

How to Use the PPI Calculator?

  1. First, enter your screen width and height in pixels.
  2. Input the screen diagonal size in inches.
  3. The tool automatically detects your screen resolution and diagonal values and sets them into the input fields. However, you can change them if needed.
  4. Press the 'Calculate' button to obtain the results.
  5. Finally, the calculator returns the pixels per inch (PPI) and dot pitch (DPI) results.
  6. In addition, the tool also shows the diagonal (in pixels), display dimensions (in inches and cm), total (pixels and megapixels), and aspect ratio (common and actual) associated with the given inputs.
  7. Press the 'Reset' button for the new PPI calculations.

How to Calculate PPI?

The pixel density (PPI) is calculated using the following formula:

PPI =
Diagonal (pixels)
Diagonal (inches)
Diagonal (pixels) =

width2 + height2

Let's take an example.

Example:

Calculate the PPI for the screen width of 2040, height of 1080, and diagonal of 6.4 inches.

Solution:

Step 1: Find the diagonal in pixels.

Diagonal (px) =

20402 + 10802

Diagonal (px) =

4161600 + 1166400

Diagonal (px) =

5328000

Diagonal (px) =   2308.25 pixels.

Step 2: Apply the PPI formula.

PPI =
2308.25
6.4

PPI =  360.66.

How to Calculate Dot Pitch?

The dot pitch (DPI) is calculated using the following formula:

Dot Pitch (mm) =
Diagonal (inches)
Diagonal (pixels)
 × 25.4
